Can a Field Period® be paid?

It is possible for a Field Period® experience to be paid, specifically those that are more internship-like in nature.

Are there Field Period® deadlines?

Deadlines are established on the Keuka College Academic Calendar for when Field Period® course proposals and approvals are due for the upcoming Field Period® term. Typically, about a month before the end of the fall/spring semester is when January/summer course proposals are due, and about one week prior to the end of the semester is when faculty and site approvals are due. After the experience, about two weeks into the following semester, faculty are required to submit grades, so students must submit their assignments and present on their experiences prior.

Where can I do a Field Period® experience?

Because Field Period® is self-designed, the sky is the limit with where you choose to go. Accessible through the College's Portal, there are many resources to help students find Field Period® sites including a database of past experiences and through employer postings on our Career Management System, Handshake. Faculty, staff, and alumni also serve as valuable resources for finding sites, and many students rely on additional networks including friends, family, past supervisors, and community members as well.

I want to do a cultural/international Field Period®. Where can I go?

Keuka College offers faculty-led group Field Period® trips on a regular basis. Information is advertised through fliers, emails, and interest sessions. Recent courses abroad include Vietnam, Netherlands, Hungary and Romania, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Spain, and Ireland. Keuka College also partners with organizations such as GIVE Volunteers, which allows students to do service work in Thailand, Tanzania, Nepal, and Laos. Sometimes, students also seek opportunities that are not affiliated with Keuka College. Students will work with the Office of Global Affairs and the Field Period Office to align with College policies and procedures.

Why is Keuka College recommending that employees wear a face covering?

The New York Forward plan and the Centers for Disease Control recommend cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.  Face coverings are not required for general office work and will not be provided to employees for whom they are not essential.

Cloth face coverings are not surgical masks or N-95 respirators, which have been designated for healthcare workers and other first responders.

Even with a face covering, you should continue to engage in social distancing.

How will off-campus Field Period® placements be affected?

Off-campus Field Period® placements, along with Internships, Student Teaching, and Clinical Placements will vary depending on the cooperating agency. Students should inquire with their academic advisor, division chair, or the Field Period® Office to confirm the status of the agency with whom they wish to work.

What is living on campus like?

Keuka College believes that the development of its students centers around the opportunity to participate in an on-campus community, first and foremost. Living on campus is a major part of the College experience, especially during your first year. There’s always something to do: go to movies, create a social event, or hang out with friends. Read more about housing & residence life and fun & adventure at Keuka College.

How are first-year students matched up as roomates?

Students fill out an online housing and roommate preference questionnaire. The Campus Life staff then pairs students based on the answers, to help provide a successful living and learning environment.

How long will I be able to live on campus?

Keuka College is a residential college! Each year a student lives on campus, they’ll have increased options for the different styles of housing throughout campus. Many seniors choose to live on campus in the Keuka Park Apartments, Strong Hall Apartments, or Harrington Hall (a residence hall of suites).

Many upper-class students choose to reside in Ball, Blyley, or Davis halls.

First-year students are almost exclusively living in Saunders (all female), Space, and Davis halls.

Who must live on campus?

Keuka College is a residential college campus. All students are required to reside in College-owned housing through the end of their senior year. The ONLY automatic exceptions to this are:

  • Commuter students (living with a parent or guardian in their home that is no more than 30 miles from campus)
  • Students that are 23 years of age or older
  • Students who are married or have dependents Keuka College does not offer family housing, so students who are married or who have dependent children are not required to reside on campus.
  • Medical Exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis by our Office of Student Accessibility Services. Your request must be submitted before Feb. 14 of the prior year for maximum consideration before the Housing Selection Process. All others will be placed on a waiting list and reviewed when openings occur. All efforts to accommodate these needs with on-campus options must be exhausted prior to off-campus permission being granted.

Contact [email protected] if you’re interested in completing the appropriate paperwork for off-campus considerations or on-campus accommodations.
