A sixth-straight annual budget surplus.

Climbing enrollment and retention rates.

The completion of the latest round of capital projects, including an entirely renovated Saunders Hall.

President Amy Storey had little but good news to share during her State of the College Address, which highlighted the College’s Fall 2024 Community Day celebration on Thursday.

Some 150 faculty and staff – including facilities personnel who recently rejoined the ranks of the College – filled the Geiser Dining Commons for the bi-annual pre-semester gathering.

“I took some time to reflect on my time as president here, and what we’ve encountered – how difficult it has been, how many schools have closed during that period,” said President Storey. “And yet, what is our shared experience? It’s success.

“The work that you do matters,” President Storey continued. “Our ability to provide education in a small, rural, liberal arts environment matters. And I couldn’t be more proud. So, thank you, everyone.”

Among the positive statistics the president shared were an incoming class of 471 new students (355 on-campus and 116 online and graduate) and a 12-year high in unrestricted net assets.

President Storey also highlighted a series of recent accomplishments, including the pending launch of the inaugural Honors Program and the new Compass general education curriculum, a revised Faculty Handbook, and this summer’s Wellness Weekend at the Lake.

The 90-minute program included a welcome to all new employees, the bestowal of glass acorns among faculty and staff who have gone out of their way to demonstrate College values, and the acknowledgment of milestone anniversaries. The latter included:
