Keuka College’s annual Green & Gold Celebration Weekend, held last month, provided myriad opportunities for the College community to celebrate all things Keuka College.

Those celebratory opportunities stretched from the College’s Jephson Community Athletic Complex 10 miles south to Penn Yan’s iconic Windmill Farm and Craft Market. A seasonal staple of the town for more than 30 years, the Windmill teamed up with the College for a “Keuka College Day” on Sept. 28. Those affiliated with the College were able to enter a special raffle, with the prize being a set of custom-designed outdoor glider chairs.

The set, crafted and donated by Ion Zimmerman of Pine Ridge Woodworking, was designed specifically for College visitors. It features the College’s green and gold colors, as well as “KC Keuka College” engraved in the headrests.

The idea for the custom furniture came from Steve Wilson, the Windmill’s operations manager.

“We were honored to be asked to host your students and alumni,” said Mr. Wilson. “It seemed appropriate, to me, to have a significant ‘grand prize’ attached to a raffle. Originally, we weren’t going to sell tickets, just have the custom furniture be the top prize. I felt it would make it even more desirable. We look forward to hosting Keuka College again next year!”

In addition to the $700 raised through the raffle, the Windmill added $300 to provide a $1,000 donation to the College’s Keuka Fund.

“The College is very grateful for all you did to make our College community feel welcome at the Windmill,” said Kathy Waye, Keuka College’s Director of Community Relations and Events, in accepting the contribution. “The gift was extremely generous.”
