Professional Interests

Adults with developmental disabilities, middle to older adult populations, and professional development of the OT students of Keuka College.

Michele graduated from Keuka College in the first OT master's program. After college she worked in local hospital and rehabilitation sites serving children to older adults. After a period of teaching as an adjunct instructor at Keuka College, she decided to pursue her doctoral degree from Chatham University (Pittsburgh, Penn.) in 2013.

She is now full-time Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy and Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for Keuka College. She remains active in working with adults in their homes as a per-diem therapist for Visiting Nursing Association/Kaleida Health in the Steuben County Region.

In 2015, Dr. Bennett gave a presentation at the AOTA National Conference with her mentor and co-worker, Dr. Carmela Battaglia on the topic of Organizing Curriculum Outcome Measurements using Moodle. She also participated in a panel presentation with other colleagues on the topic of emerging areas of practice titled "Big Fish in a Small Academic Pond". Dr. Bennett has been working hard at locating fieldwork sites that are considered emerging areas of practice, or, as she explains to students and others, these areas are "re-emerging areas." These are areas where occupational therapy students can perform a wide range of services to people in need without the presence of an occupational therapist. Instead, these students are supervised by other professionals. The goal is to teach other disciplines the role occupational therapy can have in many areas of practice.
