Ms. Gow is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and has worked for Ernst & Young in Boston and Percival Bixby in Buffalo, with experience in both audit and tax. She has over 25 years of experience in operations and financial management in the manufacturing, insurance and bonding, and the not-for-profit sectors. Over 15 years of this experience included ownership of a large regional commercial insurance and bonding agency with four offices in upstate NY and 90 employees. After the business was sold to a national firm, Ms. Gow went on to work with the Susan B. Anthony House in Rochester, a National Historic Landmark and museum, serving as Director of Finance and subsequently as Interim Executive Director. Ms. Gow has held a number of high-level positions that include Audit Manager, Vice President of Operations, Director of Finance & Operations, and Executive Director.
Rita Gow joined the Keuka College faculty in 2005 and was promoted to associate professor in 2011. She received the "make a difference in their lives" award in 2010 and 2011 and the Sigma Alpha Pi "outstanding contributions as a faculty advisor award" in 2009. Rita Gow, Associate Professor of Accounting in the Division of Business and Management, was selected the 2011 Professor of the Year.
She received her BA in Accounting from Skidmore College and her MBA in Finance from the University of Buffalo (SUNY) Graduate School of Management. Ms. Gow is a member of the NYS Society of CPAs, and the American Institute of CPAs. She conducts training webinars for accounting faculty nationwide and has reviewed accounting textbook content for Pearson.
She currently serves on the steering committee for Middle States Self-Study Reaccreditation, the curriculum committee, IT advisory committee and is the advisor for the Sigma Lamda Sigma college honor society and the Sigma Beta Delta national business honor society. She was a past chair of the Faculty Development committee, served on the Education Technology committee and was a technology mentor under the title 3 grant.
She is a volunteer tax preparer with the IRS VITA/ AARP - Tax Aide program, and a member of the advisory board of the Yates Community Endowment, affiliated with the Rochester Area Community Foundation and a Board member of the Keuka Housing Council. She has served as treasurer of both the Genesee Land Trust and the Yates Community Center Project and lent her financial expertise to other community organizations in the Finger Lakes region.
