Keuka Among Select Group to Garner Military Friendly School Status

KEUKA PARK, N.Y.—Keuka College is among a select group of colleges, universities and trade schools to garner Military Friendly School status from G.I. Jobs magazine.

The list, representing just 15 percent of all schools nationwide, recognizes those that “are doing the most to embrace America’s veterans as students.” It will appear in the “Guide to Military Friendly Schools,” which will be published by G.I. Jobs next month. The list can be found at www.militaryfriendlyschools.com/mfspr.

“We are committed to educating veterans and members of our military and pleased to receive national recognition for that effort,” said Keuka President Joseph G. Burke.

Earlier this year, Keuka announced that it was taking part in the Yellow Ribbon GI. Education Enhancement Program. The College will cover up to 50 percent of direct costs not otherwise covered by the Post-9/11 Veterans Education Assistance Act, widely known as the “New GI Bill.”

“This list is especially important now because the recently enacted Post-9/11 GI Bill has given veterans virtually unlimited financial means to go to school,” said Rich McCormack, publisher of G.I. Jobs. “Veterans need a trusted friend to help them decide where to get educated. The Military Friendly Schools list is that trusted friend.”

The list was compiled after the magazine polled more than 7,000 schools nationwide. Methodology, criteria and weighting were developed with the assistance of a committee consisting of educators and administrators from Carnegie Mellon University, University of Toledo, Duquesne University, Coastline Community College, and Lincoln Technical Institute.

Criteria for making the list included efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students, results in recruiting military and veteran students, and academic accreditation.

G.I. Jobs (www.gijobs.com) is published by Victory Media, a veteran-owned business headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pa. The company also publishes Military Spouse and Vetrepreneur magazines and annually rates the nation’s “Military Friendly Employers,” “Military Spouse Friendly Employers,” and “Best Corporations for Veteran Owned Businesses.”

Keuka College is the national leader in experiential, hands-on learning.
