Lindsay-Abaire's Kimberly Akimbo is Fall Theatre Production
10/22/2009
David Lindsay-Abaire's Kimberly Akimbo, the fall theatre production at Keuka College, will be staged Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 22-25, in the Red Barn Theatre on campus.
Curtain is 8 p.m. Oct. 22-24 and 7 p.m. Oct. 25.
Set in suburban New Jersey, Kimberly Akimbo is a play about a teenager with a rare condition that causes her body to age faster than it should. When she and her family flee Secaucus under dubious circumstances, Kimberly is forced to reevaluate her life while contending with a hypochondriac mother, a rarely sober father, a scam-artist aunt, her own mortality and, most terrifying of all, the possibility of first love.
The New York Daily News called it “A wacky, touching and totally charming dark comedy that gives a whole new meaning to ‘coming of age story.’”
The cast includes Barbara Lomb (Kimberly), Patrick Caughill (Buddy), Amber Smith (Pattie), Samantha Gavin (Deborah), and Matt Snyder (Jeff). Kelsey Marquart is the stage manager and the assistant stage managers are Makenna Moon and Sara Munio.
The play will be directed by Associate Professor of Theatre Mark Wenderlich. Tickets are $7; $4 for Keuka students, faculty and staff, and are available at genevarts.com, the Keuka College bookstore, or the door.
