Prerequisite: EDU 275. This course provides a continued investigation of the methods and materials for instruction in language literacy (reading, writing, listening and speaking) for the early childhood educator. Using the NYS Standards for Language Arts, this course will emphasize individualized instruction for children who are gifted, those whose native language is not English, and those who exhibit difficulty in learning literacy skills in the early childhood classroom in a variety of settings (pull-out, push-in, self-contained classrooms). Skills in diagnosis of language and literacy deficits are developed, as well as related remedial and corrective strategies. Interaction with consultant teachers, other specialists, and parents will be addressed. (Offered every fall semester).(3)
